London based DJ, composer, and music producer – Phil Mison, first started his DJ career at London’s Milk bar in 1991, warming up for Darren Emerson. A chance meeting with José Padilla in 1992 led to a two-year residency at Ibiza’s Cafe Del Mar.

Throughout the 90’s, he played at the Ministry of Sound, the Gardening Club and Bar Rhumba and become Leftfield tour DJ in 1996 and 2000. Shortly afterwards, he started a new creative outlet – Cantoma, and in 2003, the first album was released, along with four more in subsequent years.

Phil is currently working on the second ‘Ambala’ album for Kenneth Bager’s – Music for Dreams label and continues his busy schedule producing and DJing all over the globe.

We wanted to do a little Q&A with Phil so here goes:

BEST SCENE EVER

“There are quite a few to choose from. One of the first films I ever saw at the cinema was ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’. The scene at the end when the mother spaceship lands and all the missing people come out, followed by the tall spindly aliens, blew me away. I was seven or eight at the time, I made my mum take me back to see it a couple more times. I don’t think she was that keen on it the first viewing so probably thought ‘not again!'”

ONE OF YOUR MOST LOVED SOUNDTRACKS

“The ‘Straight Story’ by Angelo Badalmenti. Beautiful film by David Lynch about an old man driving a lawn mower from Iowa to Mt Zion to see his estranged brother before he dies. Music goes perfectly with film.”

LAST SUPPER

“Native oysters followed by a pint of prawns, fish soup and several pints of Guinness.”

GUILTY PLEASURE

“Beans on toast with coleslaw and Worcestershire sauce.”

WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO COOK?

“Something really simple like hake with lemon, garlic, olive oil and tomatoes. With samphire on the side.”

That concludes our Q&A with Phil – now let’s get to the music 🎶

As part of our monthly guest DJ sets on #mixcloud and next in the line-up is the legendary Phil Mison, who will be kicking us off with this…
